The New Zealand Fur Seal or Kekeno is the most comon seal found in New Zealand waters and can also be found in Western & Southern Australia as well as around the sub-Antarctic islands..The majority of the New Zealand population that has been continually increasing in recent years, can be found around the South Island coastline.. Feeding mainly at night on squid and other small mid-water fish fur seals can dive to great depths in pursuit of their prey, with some females recording dives exceeding 200m deep and of 10 plus minutes in duration, though most dives are only of 1 - 2 minutes.
