Endeans Mill was established in 1928 after being moved from Matiere to mill the native timbers of the Ongarue stream valley . Buildings, machinery, logs and stacks of milled timber sit just as they were left some 16 years ago when the mill closed in 1996. Being New Zealands last remaining native timber mill, it is hoped that it may one day be preserved for future generations to view and appreciate.
